intervention options
The drug intervention
process involves initial contact with a drug intervention specialist
who works with concerned family members in drug intervention planning.
Family or drug intervention is the term commonly used to describe
the process of helping an individual come to terms with his or her
own increasing chemical dependency issues. When a person needing
drug rehab is initially approached by family members with a suggestion
to go to drug rehab, that initial suggestion may be met with resistance.
After all if this person really had any concept of the pain and
damage he was causing to his family, wouldnÇt he stop on his own?
The drug intervention specialist will first educate family members
on signs and symptoms of chemical dependency. The drug intervention
facilitator will then meet with concerned family members to give
them assignments to use during the drug intervention and set up
the drug intervention. Once this is done, the drug intervention
specialist meets family members and the person needing intervention.
This process may take several hours and results are usually positive.
The person needing admission to a drug treatment center then accompanies
the drug intervention facilitator to a drug rehab facility.
Drug addiction is repetative compulsive behavior defined by many
aspects. One of these aspects is denial. Persons needing drug intervention
are rarely able to see the extent of the damage they are causing
themselves and their families. This is due in part to the effects
of the drugs themselves. The result is a vicious circle that seems
to never end. When asked to quit using harmful drugs, drug abusers
may state, " IÇll quit on my own time" "its not that bad" or even
" The fact that you are pressuring me is making it worse"
At this point family members find themselves at a juncture. They truly
want to believe that a person suffering from alcohol or drug addiction can
quit on their own despite evidence to the contrary. They may choose to do
nothing and allow their loved one to continue suffering or they may
contact a specialist for drug intervention.
The drug intervention specialist will first educate family members
on signs and symptoms of chemical dependency. The drug intervention
specialist will then meet with family members to give them assignments
to use during the drug intervention and set up the drug intervention.
Once this is done, the drug intervention specialist meets family
members and the person needing intervention. This process may take
several hours and results are usually positive. The person needing
drug treatment then accompanies the drug intervention specialist
to a drug rehab facility. |
