drug
treatment
Drug treatment is an intensive process that addresses major issues around
the use of alcohol or drugs. Drug treatment is a supportive approach to
addressing the issue of chemical dependency. Drug treatment involves the
whole family and is designed to facilitate lifelong changes. The first
step in addressing a drug problem is to pick up the telephone and call a
drug treatment counselor. Counseling staff at drug treatment and chemical
dependence treatment centers are caring individuals that have specific
training in handling the complex emotional and physical problems related
to chemical dependency and are licenced and qualified to make highly
specific recommendations toward various solutions through drug treatment.
A telephone call to a drug treatment center or intake counselor is the
first step in resolving issues that harm oneÇs self and family. A drug
treatment counselor can refer those in need to an appropriate drug
treatment facility that may have an immediate opening. A drug treatment
counselor may also recommend the services of a qualified drug intervention
specialist. A drug intervention is needed when family members have
difficulty in getting a family member to agree to attend drug treatment.
Placement in drug treatment can occur on the same day or when it is
convenient for all involved.
Family members can contact drug treatment counseling services to set up
drug interventions for those in need. A drug intervention is a process in
which concerned family members meet with a drug intervention specialist
to address drug treatment issues in a caring and supportive manner. If the
drug intervention is successful, the person needing drug treatment
accompanies the intervention provider to a drug rehab center for drug
treatment.
During placement in drug treatment, the intake counselor, interventionist
and drug treatment center staff continue to update family members as to
progress and encourage participation in family exercises and therapy
groups. Family groups are weekly sessions in which family members get
together with therapists and drug treatment clients to address issues that
they find difficult to deal with. This is all done in a gentle supportive
manner that encourages growth and change
